Keys eventually spoke.

“What watch?”

Rhea’s laugh came out high.

“What watch?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“The ugly silver one you wear every day.”

“That doesn’t mean it’s mine.”

“Keys.”

“What?”

“Are you at Tia’s?”

“No.”

“Say it again.”

“I said no.”

“Good.”

“Why good?”

“Because now I know you’re lying.”

“I’m not lying.”

“Tia is Live.”

Keys went quiet.

Rhea smiled.

This time with teeth.

“Ohhh. You didn’t know?”

“Rhea.”

“You didn’t know she was Live.”

“Listen to me.”

“No, you listen to me, because you collected our daughter, dropped her at your mum’s and then went to my ex-best friend’s house.”

“It’s not like that.”

“There it is.”

“What?”

“The sentence men use right before explaining exactly how it is like that.”

Shan covered her mouth.

Even she nearly laughed.

Keys sounded tired.

“Tia called me.”

“And?”

“She had an issue.”

“What issue?”

“Personal.”

Rhea stared into the camera.

“Personal?”

“Yes.”

“Personal like what?”

“I’m not discussing her business with you.”

“Are you fucking her?”

“Rhea.”

“Are you fucking her?”

“No.”

“Have you fucked her?”

“No.”

“Have you tried?”

“No.”

“Has she tried?”

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know if somebody tried to fuck you?”

“You’re doing too much.”

“I haven’t even started.”

“Where are you?”

Rhea glanced towards Shan.

Shan mouthed:

Lie.

“At home.”

Keys did not answer immediately.

“Stay there.”

Rhea’s eyes narrowed.

“Excuse me?”

“Stay home. I’m coming.”

“Oh, now you’re coming?”

“Yes.”

“No need.”

“Rhea.”

“I said no need.”

“Stay at your house.”

“Stop telling me where to stay.”

“Because I know you.”

“You don’t know shit.”

“I know exactly what you’re about to do.”

“And what am I about to do?”

“You’re going to Tia’s.”

Rhea picked up her handbag.

“I’m literally sitting in my bed.”

Shan looked at the empty bed, then at Rhea standing in the hallway with her keys in hand.

Keys exhaled.

“Rhea.”

“What?”

“Don’t.”

The line went dead.

Rhea stared at the phone.

Then at Shan.

Shan stood.

“No.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“I know that face.”

“What face?”

“The face you made before you flew to Marbella because that DJ said he was single.”

“That holiday was already loosely planned.”

“You booked it in the airport.”

“Spontaneity is healthy.”

“You ended up detained.”

“Temporarily delayed.”

“You were in a room with police.”

“They misunderstood the tone of my voice.”

“You threw a shoe.”

“It slipped.”

Shan grabbed her coat.

Rhea frowned.

“Where are you going?”

“With you.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“Then why have you got your car keys?”

Rhea looked down at them.

“Oh.”

“Exactly.”

“I was putting them somewhere safe.”

“In your hand?”

“Shan, if you’re coming, come.”

“I hate you.”

“You love me.”

“I actively dislike you tonight.”

They left the flat.

The Live came with them.

Of course it did.
