Shan lowered her head into her hands.

Rhea continued.

“I have spent years responding to everything. Every rumour, every lie, every shady comment, every friend that falls out with me, every man that embarrasses me and every person who wakes up and decides my name will get them attention.”

The comments slowed slightly.

“I thought I was defending myself.”

She looked at the viewer count.

Twenty-one thousand.

“Maybe sometimes I was.”

She paused.

“Sometimes I was also giving people exactly what they wanted.”

Shan looked up.

Rhea’s voice softened.

“So tonight, I drove somewhere I should not have driven because somebody wanted me angry enough to go there. People were outside filming before I even arrived. Think about how fucking weird that is.”

The comments changed.

TRUE

THAT PART

PEOPLE ARE STRANGE

Rhea nodded.

“I’m not innocent. I’ve done stupid shit publicly, said things I shouldn’t have said and entertained things that didn’t deserve my energy.”

She breathed.

“And I’m tired.”

That part was real enough to tighten her throat.

“I’m tired of strangers knowing when I’m angry before my own mother does.”

Shan looked at her.

“I’m tired of somebody hurting me and then twenty thousand people deciding whether I’m allowed to be hurt based on how pretty I looked while reacting.”

Silence settled over the kitchen.

“I’m tired of being content.”

Rhea reached towards the screen.

“So I’m done.”

Comments exploded.

NOOOO

RHEA DONT LEAVE

TAKE A BREAK BABE

WE LOVE U

She smiled faintly.

“I love some of you too. The rest of you need employment.”

Shan laughed.

Rhea ended the Live.

Then deleted Instagram from her phone.

TikTok.

YouTube.

Twitter.

She placed the phone on the counter.

Shan stared.

“You actually did it.”

“Yes.”

“Wow.”

Rhea inhaled.

Exhaled.

“Tea?”

“You made one forty minutes ago.”

“Oh.”

The mug was cold.

They laughed.

For the first time that evening, the flat felt peaceful.

At 3:14 a.m., Shan woke on Rhea’s sofa.

Something was glowing in the kitchen.

She sat up.

Listened.

A voice.

Rhea’s voice.

Shan closed her eyes.

“No.”

She walked towards the kitchen.

Rhea was sitting at the counter in darkness, laptop open and ring light on.

YouTube Live.

Viewer count: 34,782.

Rhea looked directly into the camera.

“Right.”

Shan stood in the doorway.

Rhea saw her and raised one finger.

“One last fucking thing.”

Shan immediately turned around.

“Nope.”

Rhea continued.

“Because apparently Tia’s mother has something to say now, and since everybody has suddenly forgotten what happened in Marbella in 2022, I’ve brought receipts.”

She lifted a folder.

An actual folder.

Printed documents inside.

The comments went insane.

Shan walked back towards the sofa.

Behind her, Rhea’s voice rose through the flat.

“And before anybody says I’m not healed, healing does not mean amnesia.”

Shan pulled a cushion over her face.

From the kitchen came:

“Now. Exhibit A.”

And somewhere across London, thousands of people settled in.

Again.
